[Château Marmont –  Antipode, Rennes - April, 2nd 2009]

   Here is the (short) interview of the Parisian band called Château Marmont. We met them when they played at the ‘Club Follamour’ party at Antipode, Rennes. We Have Band and Errors were playing too. It was quite a long time ago, but we were waiting for Alizée’s songs to be played on the radio. We will not be talking about this, we just want you to go see Château Marmont live – with or without their mates at Institubes.


1) Could you introduce yourselves please?

I am Angy, I play bass guitar.
I am Julien, I play bass guitar for Château Marmont. (Everyone laughs)
Angy corrects him: You play drums.
Guillaume, I play keyboard.
I am Raphaël, I sing and play guitar and a little bit of keyboard.
Guillaume : We are from Paris.
Julien : We have known each other a long time, maybe fifteen years. We formed the band two years ago. Our label is called Institubes.


2) Can you sing a cartoon’s main theme?

Julien : Ah! Sing it? It is not really a theme but... Can I sing the melody?
Raphaël : Les cités d’or? (Ed: The Mysterious Cities of Gold)
Julien : “Children of the sun...”
Raphaël : This is the dance music version!
Angy : To answer your question, we are not able to sing it, but we could. We could quote “The Mysterious Cities of Gold”. It is impossible to sing Albator. (Ed: Captain Harlock).


3) What is the best luggage brand?

Julien : Vuitton of course.
Angy : Those by Samsonite are stronger.
Raphaël : I am not a specialist but I have a very good one. I do not know the brand though. (We check: it is a Phoenix.)
Angy : Well done.


4) What is your favourite fruit juice flavour?

Guillaume : Pineapple.
Angy : Yes, I would go for pineapple too.
Raphaël : I like mango juice.
Julien : Gooseberry/cranberry or raspberry.
Guillaume : Do you often drink raspberry juice?!


5) According to you, which musical instrument is the sexiest?

Raphaël : The trumpet.
Julien : The viol.
Angy : The cello.
Julien : Are we talking about form or sound?
Angy : I was just picturing a guy playing cello.
Raphaël : They were asking about the instrument. I would say the accordion.


6) What is the best catering you have ever had, and why?

Julien : One where we could eat anything we want.
Angy : There was no taboulé. We are sick of it. There was neither old camembert nor charcuterie.
Raphaël : One with crêpes!
Angy : There was some crêpes! I would say one with chocolate mousse.
Guillaume : With cherry tomatoes and mozzarella.
Julien : Carrots.
Angy : There was some salty cake right? And some sesame sticks.
Angy : A very balanced and refined meal.
Julien : We ate all this in a Parisian club called Le Régine.


7) Do you know how to play chess?

All : I think we would be beaten very fast.


8) Do you have a dream destination in mind?

Julien : Rennes.
Angy : Laval. You mean, if we had to leave right now ?
100% : Not necessarily. Is there a place you have never been to, that you dream of seeing one day?
Angy : Bora Bora, South America.
Julien : Japan.


9) Which album should we listen to while gardening?

Angy : I was going to say François de Roubaix’s, but I was listening to André Popp the last time I was gardening, and it was very nice.


10) Plastic or cork stoppers?

All : Cork stoppers.


11) Could you give us a cooking recipe please?

Angy : Chicory salad with pears and nuts - chicories, Roquefort, nuts and pears. It is just a salad, not a real meal...
Julien : I don’t really know. Maybe calf roasted to a gold crust with cherries?
Raphaël : Oh, perfect!
Angy : Tiramisu?
Julien : A dessert? I eat salty!
Guillaume : Roasted apples with ice cream.


12) We read in MAGIC that you were going to work with Alizée. What is the deal?

All : We worked on her new album.
100% : What should we expect?
Guillaume : You will see. It is a very sexy record.
Julien : It is really good. It is completely different from what she has done in the past. We were free to do whatever we wanted.
Guillaume : It will be very surprising.
Angy : I think her fans will be very surprised.
100% : When will it be released?
All : In September, or beginning of October.
